Dr Wazed’s selfless service to the nation recalled

Renowned nuclear scientist and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s husband Dr MA Wazed Miah served the nation selflessly with the highest degree of patriotism, dedication and passion, reports BSS.

The observations came at a memorial discussion followed by prize distribution function organised by Dr Wazed Smriti Sangshad (DWSS) at Shilpakala Academy auditorium in Dhaka on Sunday night coincided with the 79th birthday of Dr Wazed.
DWSS chalked out two-day programmes including arranging different competitions for children on February 15 and placing of wreaths at the grave of Dr Wazed followed by offering Fateha, memorial discussion and prize distribution on February 16. 

Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md Zakir Hossain attended the discussion as the chief guest with President of DWSS and freedom fighter Professor Dr Hamidul Haque Khondaker in the chair. General Secretary of DWSS Saiful Islam Jahangir delivered welcome speech narrating different aspects of the life and works of Dr. Wazed and his tremendous contributions to building a developed nation for materialising the dreams of Bangabandhu.

Additional District Magistrate Md Arafat Rahman and Organising Secretary of DWSS Alhaj Tanvir Hossain Ashrafi addressed as special guests. Adviser of district Awami League and founding member of DWSS delivered keynote essay on the life, deeds, personality, excellent character and human qualities and virtues of the nuclear scientist.

Moderated by Women Affairs Secretary of DWSS Tahmina Shirin, its executive committee members, academics, professionals, intellectuals, socio-cultural activists, students, children and guardians attended the occasion. Terming Dr. Wazed as a completely honest man with noble character, the speakers said he worked for immortalising ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through building a technologically advanced Bangladesh.

Arafat Rahman said the selfless services and contributions of Dr. Wazed to the nation-building activities would remain as a source of national inspiration before the young generations forever. Professor Dr Hamidul Haque called upon the young generations to follow the ideals of Dr Wazed in becoming greedless citizens with patriotic zeal to realise the Bangabandhu’s dream of building a developed Sonar Bangla.

The chief guest said the nation would remember Dr. Wazed for his incredible contributions to flourishing the science education and research and his ideals in serving the country selflessly as a model source of inspiration. Later, he distributed prizes, crests and certificates among winners of different competitions arranged for children in various categories by DWSS as the birthday celebration programmes of Dr Wazed ends at 10 pm.
