Dr Wazed Miah’s 79th birthday observed at JU

The 79th birthday of renowned nuclear scientist and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s husband Dr MA Wazed Miah was observed on Sunday at the campus of Jahangirnagar University (JU) in a befitting manner, reports BSS.

On February 16 in 1942, Wazed Miah affectionately called ‘Sudha Miah’ was born in a respectable Muslim family of Laldighi Fatehpur village under Pirganj upazila in Rangpur district. He breathed his last in Dhaka on May 9 in 2009 and was buried at the family graveyard in his native village at Pirganj.

Marking the day, JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam and its teachers under the banner of “Bangabandhu Shikkhok Parishad” placed wreaths at the mural of Dr MA Wazed Miah, in front of Dr Wazed Miah Science and Research Center of the university around 10 am.

Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Amir Hossain, Pro-VC (Education) Prof Dr Md Nurul Alam, Acting Registrar Rahima Kaneez, Proctor ASM Firoj Ul Hasan and Deans of different faculties were present, among others. Besides, JU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) arranged a Milad and doa mahfil at the central mosque of the university.

A special munajat was offered there seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of Dr Wazed and well-being of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and their other family members.
