Prices of onion, vegetables and chicken continue to remain high this week. Besides, the prices of eggs and potatoes have come down. The prices of eggs have come down while the prices of other products remain unchanged.
The situation has been observed after visiting a good number of kitchen markets in the capital on Friday.
Winter vegetables have already started coming to the markets before the onset of winter.
However, in most cases the prices of vegetables have made people gasping. Dissatisfaction among the buyers persist due to the increasing prices of the vegetables in the kitchen markets of the capital.
Per kg brinjal is being sold at Tk 60, bitter gourd at Tk 50, tomato Tk 140-170, bean at Tk 80, string beans at Tk 80, pumpkin at Tk 40, snake gourd at Tk 40, pointed gourd at Tk 60, potato at Tk 18, spiny gourd at Tk 50, cauliflower and cabbage at Tk 50 per piece, and gourd at Tk 50-60 per piece.
The price of onion is increasing and it is being sold at Tk 60-70. The price of green chili has gone up in the market and is being sold at Tk 160 per kg after an increase of Tk 20. Papaya is being sold at Tk 30 per kg. Cucumbers are being sold at Tk 60 to Tk 70.
Dried chillies are being sold at Tk 150 to Tk 250 per kg, garlic at Tk 80 to Tk 130, ginger at Tk 70-100 and turmeric powder at Tk 160 to Tk 220 per kg. Besides, Indian lentils are being sold at Tk 90 per kg and local lentils at Tk 110 per kg.
Vegetable traders of the kitchen markets are saying, “The prices will go down with the advent of winter and will be within the reach of buyers.”
Edible oil prices have come down a little in these markets. In retail level oil is being sold at Tk 150 per litre. Sugar is being sold at Tk 80 per kg at the previous price. Besides, packets of sugar are being sold at Tk 85 per kg.
The price of eggs has come down in the market. A dozen of red eggs is being sold at Tk 105 while duck eggs are being sold for Tk 160. Local chicken eggs are being sold at Tk 180 per dozen.
The price of broiler chicken has increased again and the chikens are being sold at Tk 175per kg with an increase of Tk 5 per kg. Sonali chicken is being sold at Tk 320-340 per kg and layer chicken at Tk 230 per kg.
