The historic Suhrawardy Udyan is getting a colourful look as the programmes centring the inauguration of the Mujib Barsho, the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will kick off on March 17.
Earlier, the venue of the programmes has been shifted to the Suhrawardy Udyan from the National Parade Ground.
According to the organisers, the programmes will be inaugurated at 8:00pm on March 17 at Suhrawardy Udyan through fireworks although the programmes were scheduled to be held at the National Parade Ground at 4:00pm. The changes have been made considering the risk of coronavirus outbreak.
Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, chief coordinator of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee, at a briefing on Thursday said mass gathering at the National Parade Ground has been postponed due to coronavirus outbreak as well as considering public health.
“Now the programmes will be held at the Suhrawardy Udyan instead of the National Parade Ground. The programmes will be held in a limited scale and people from all walks of life will be able to enjoy them through television, online and social media”, said Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury.
He also said that the inaugural time schedule has been changed and it has been fixed at 8:00pm instead of 4:00pm as Bangabandhu was born at 8:00pm on March 17 in 1920.
It should be mentioned that the programmes were scheduled to be held with the participation of more than one-lakh guests from home and abroad, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and diplomats from different countries. But, the programmes have been revised considering the coronavirus outbreak.
Kamal Chowdhury said, the programmes will be inaugurated 8:00pm through fireworks immediate after the speech of the President before the nation.
“The inaugural programmes will be held avoiding public gathering and the entire programmes will be telecast through the media so that people of the country as well as the entire world could enjoy them staying at home”, he said and continued as saying that people will also be able to enjoy the programmes through online and social media.
He informed that they resorted to revise the programmes, schedules and venue due to the coronavirus outbreak.
As part of the earlier arrangement, the programmes at the National Parade Ground were supposed to be participated by more than one lakh guests from home and abroad, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ministers and diplomats from different countries.
He also said that like in capital Dhaka, the programmes will also be held at district and upazila levels across the country at the same time avoiding mass gathering.
Besides, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will go to Tungipara of Gopalganj in the morning on March 17 on the occasion of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and the National Children Day.
According to the officials at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Sheikh Hasina, the eldest daughter of Bangabandhu, along with her family members will place floral wreaths at the graveyard of Bangabandhu at 10:00am and also take part at a function on the occasion of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and the National Children Day.
Before going to Tungipara, she will place floral wreath at the statue of Bangabandhu at Dhanmondi and after returning from Gopalganj, Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the programmes centring the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and the Mujib Barsho at the National Parade Ground in capital Dhaka at 4:00pm.
According to government officials, the March 17 has been declared as a national holyday and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and the National Children Day will be observed countrywide and also globally.
