University of Skill Enrichment and Technology (USET), the first skill enrichment university in the country, is going to start its academic activities from March 1 while its admission process would begin this week, report agencies.

“The university’s main objective is to contribute towards country’s sustainable development by developing skilled people and supporting employment,” said eminent economist and Chief Patron of USET Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad at a press conference at Narayanganj Press Club today.

He said students of the university will be able to learn, think and ask questions which are the three main steps of earning knowledge that ultimately helps people to apply their knowledge in their respective fields.

USET will ensure skill-based education for the students from middle class and lower middle class families of the country. It will also provide the opportunity of quality education for the underprivileged students of the rural and urban areas, said a press release.

Dr. Moazzem Hossain, Founder Chairman of USET Trustee Board and former Professor of Griffith University, Australia said, “To get the result of Fourth Industrial Revolution, we need the collaboration of educational institutions and industries, and we have started the university in line with that vision.”

He said they are focusing on applied education instead of traditional educational curriculum in the country. “Considering the importance of applied education, we will be arranging ‘industrial attachment’ for the students of our university”.

Dr. Tanvir Khan, Vice Chancellor (Designate) shared the detailed information about the academic programme of USET. The university will start its academic activities at the temporary campus at Signboard, Narayanganj and the permanent campus will be established at Meghna in Cumilla. M Serajul Islam, Shayaka Sharmin and other members of the Trustee Board were also present.
