US State Department delegation visits Ctg Port

A six-member delegation from the US Department of State visited Chittagong Port as part of its visit to Bangladesh on March 11-12.

After the delegation arrived at Chittagong Port on Wednesday, they courtesy meet with Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman, Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA).

He briefed the delegation on the recent achievements of Chittagong Port and the positive progress of the port in various indicators. 

He said that the security of the port and ships has been ensured by implementing international ship and port security regulations at the port and like other ports in the world, this security system of Chittagong Port has been evaluated at the international level.

Recently, a two-day official inspection by the US Coast Guard International Port Security Team was completed. As the report sent after the inspection did not mention any observations or shortcomings against Chittagong Port, it is considered a significant and glorious achievement in the history of the port.

 When the delegation asked about drug smuggling through the Chittagong Port, the Port Chairman said that there is no record of drug smuggling through the port in the recent past. 

He also expressed hope that due to the modernization of the security department and the introduction of digital systems, there will be no opportunity for smuggling in the future.

The delegation was also informed about the current activities and future development projects of the Chittagong Port. The delegation assured to provide various training and cooperation related to the security and crime prevention of the Chittagong Port.

Chittagong Port Authority Director (Transport) Enamul Karim and the port's senior officials were present at the time.
