In a major reshuffle in Bangladesh Police, two high officials have been sent to retirement and a significant number of senior officers were assigned to new roles.
Some other senior officers were attached to the Police headquarters and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The Ministry of Home Affairs, Police Headquarters and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Tuesday issued separate notifications and orders in this regard.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Moniruzzaman and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Rangpur Range Md Abdul Baten have been sent to retirement.
Additional IGP and Special Branch (SB) chief Monirul Islam was reassigned to the Police Headquarters.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Railway Police Md Shah Alam was assigned as the acting charge of SB chief. In a reshuffle within the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), 28 deputy commissioners (DCs) and superintendents of police (SPs) from various districts were transferred.
18 officers-in-charge of different police stations under Dhaka Metropolitan Police were also transferred.
They were transferred in a notification signed by Additional DIG of Police Headquarters Mohammad Zahirul Islam.
Former OC of Jatrabari Police Station BM Farman Ali, Mazharul Islam of Gulshan, Abul Kalam Azad of Motijheel, Monir Hossain Molla of Paltan, Mostazirur Rahman of Shahbagh and Apurba Hasan of Pallabi are among the transferred officers.
According to police sources, most of these OCs were directly involved in firing on students, mass arrests, harassment, and excessive force during the recent student movement.
Additional IGP of the Police Headquarters Tawfique Mahbub Chowdhury was appointed as the chief of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).
Mohammad Ali Mia from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was attached to the Police Headquarters.
Additional DIG of Police Anwar Hossain was transferred to a specialized training center in Khagrachhari.
Furthermore, seven more officers with the rank of additional DIG have been reshuffled.
