Two separate defamation cases were filed against former Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sayeed Khokon on allegation of making defamatory remarks against incumbent DSCC Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.

According to the court sources, Advocate Kazi Anisur Rahman and Advocate Sarwar Alam filed the cases with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury recorded the statements of the plaintiffs. The court decided to pass an order in this regard today (Tuesday).

Earlier in the day, Mayor Taposh said, "The former mayor held a meeting on Saturday where he made the allegations against me out of personal resentment. He has defamed me."

Earlier on Saturday, Sayeed Khokon alleged that Taposh transferred hundreds of crores of taka from the South City Corporation to his own Modhumoti Bank, and is receiving crores of taka in profit by investing personally.

He also claimed that due to a lack of money, the poor employees of the city corporation have not been getting their salaries for months, and many development projects have been halted due to a lack of funds.

Bangladesh Post talked to Sayeed Khokon to know his reaction over the cases filed against him.

Instead of giving reaction, he sent a written message through mobile app WhatsApp.

“What is the market price of Taposh? I don’t know. I shall know it after filling case”, the text message reads.

He also vowed to fight legally and in the streets.
