After 15 days of mixed trading, the turnover at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) crossed Tk 950 crore on Monday, with indices edging higher and most shares gaining.
The benchmark DSEX index advanced by 18 points, while the Shariah-based DSES gained 11 points and the blue-chip DS-30 rose by 5 points.
Of the 400 issues traded, 224 advanced, 94 declined and 64 remained unchanged. Prices rose across all categories — A, B and Z.
In the A-category, which comprises dividend-paying companies, 131 out of 221 issues closed higher, 62 declined and 28 remained unchanged.
The block market saw the sale of shares worth Tk 13 crore across 41 companies, with Pubali Bank topping the chart at Tk 2.94 crore.
The turnover also gained pace, totalling Tk 975 crore at the end of the day, up from Tk 801 crore in the previous session.
Sonali Paper and Board Mills led the gainers on the DSE with over 9 percent rise, while ICB Employees Provident Mutual Fund was the worst loser, shedding more than 5 percent.
CSE also UP
Like Dhaka, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended higher, with its overall index rising by 61 points.
Of the 208 issues traded, 128 advanced, 54 declined and 26 remained unchanged.
The turnover on the port city bourse stood at Tk 18 crore, up from Tk 13 crore in the previous session.
Asia Pacific General Insurance topped the CSE gainers with a 10 percent jump, while Popular Life Insurance fell 9 percent to finish at the bottom.
