Owners and workers of trucks and covered vans withdrawn the countrywide strike on Thursday following a successful meeting with home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, reports BSS.

Earlier at about 900pm on Wednesday, Bangladesh Truck and Covered Van Goods Transport Owners and Workers Unity Council leaders held a meeting with the home minister and other government stakeholders at the minister’s Dhanmondi residence. Following the meeting, they announced to call off the strike around 12.45 am on the first hour of Thursday.

Referring to the acceptance regarding their reasonable demands Asaduzzaman said, “We have considered their demands…Responding to their first demand, Government will allow them to renew their license and other instruments by June 2020”. The minister assured them saying that the proposals will be sent to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, as the unity council leaders placed nine-point demands asking for some changes in the law.

Replying to the questions of the newsmen the minister said, “The law will not be amended…But there are some issues we have agreed to be taken care of”. Earlier on 19 November, Bangladesh Truck Covered-van Goods Transport Owners Workers Unity Council called an indefinite strike across the country, demanding the change to the new Road Transport Act-2018.
