The construction of the tourism complex at Parki beach in Anwara upazila of Chattogram will be completed by December this year, said Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin on Wednesday.
He said this while visiting the ongoing project titled “Introduction of Tourism Facilities at Parki (2nd Revised)” at the beach.
“Due to water-related issues and other obstacles the project’s progress was slowed. The contracting firm and the project director have assured that all infrastructural work will be completed by December this year,” said Bashir.
Tourism secretary Begum Nasreen Jahan said the tourism complex at Parki beach is a promising project.
It will require active participation of the local community along with vital support from the Tourist Police and other law enforcement agencies, she said.
Bangladesh Tourism Corporation Chairperson Saima Shaheen Sultana, Project Director Majedur Rahman, Anwara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tahmina Akter, and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Dipak Tripura were also present.
The construction of the Parki beach tourism complex began in 2018 with an allocation of Tk 62 crore on 13.36 acres of land to modernise the beach.
Initially the project was scheduled to be completed within two years but the deadline expired in November ,2020. By then, only about 20 percent of the work had been completed by the three contracting firms.
Subsequently, the project tenure was extended to December 2021 with an increased allocation of Tk 71.25 crore. But due to continued slow progress the implementing authority again sought further extension.
