Liton Das’s century and Shakib Al Hasan’s fifer assisted Bangladesh to thrash hosts Zimbabwe as the Tigers win the first ODI in three match series by 155 run in Harare Sports Club Friday.
Liton Das has been declared man of the match.
With the wicket of Brendon Taylor, Shakib Al Hasan became the highest wicket taker for Bangladesh in ODIs. Shakib took 274 wicket in 213 ODIs. Shakib has left Mashrafe bin Mortaza behind to rise at the top. Mashrafe has taken 269 wickets in 218 matches.
Zimbabwe posted 86 runs for 4 wickets after 18 overs. Shakib, Taskin Ahmed, Saifuddin and Shoriful Islam all bagged 1 wicket each.
Earlier, Liton Das hit a majestic century after the early collapse in the top order as Bangladesh set 277 runs target in the first ODI against host Zimbabwe in Harare Sports Club. Liton scored his 4th ODI ton, 3rd against Zimbabwe.
Liton led the way with a 102-run innings off 114 deliveries, including eight boundaries.
In the middle order, Mahmudullah, Afif Hossian, and Mehedi Hasan Miraz scored 33, 45,and 26 runs, respectively, to help Tigers pass the 270-run milestone.
Skipper Tamim Iqbal has been dismissed for a duck. Shakib Al Hasan, who has been out of form with bat for some time now, is dismissed for 19 off 25 balls. Mohammad Mithun (19) and Mosaddek Hossain (5) have failed to recover the early fall of the Tigers.
Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor has won the toss and decided to bowl first against Bangladesh. The series is part of the ICC ODI Super League, a qualifying competition for the next World Cup.
On Wednesday, Mushfiqur Rahim had to leave the series midway due to a family emergency and pacer Mustafizur Rahman has been rested for the opening ODI after injuring his ankle in the build-up to the series. Mohammad Saifuddin replaced Mustafiz in the XI.
