Tigers left no teams (Test) unbeaten in the all formats of cricket when they gunned down England in the first T20 off three-match series by six wickets with two overs in hands on Thursday.
Held at the Jahur Ahmed Stadium, Chattogram, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hassan won the toss and decided to field first and booked the visitors on 156 runs and comfortably chased the target losing four wickets with 12 balls remaining.
The new-look Tigers beat the world champions when it was very rare Bangladesh delivered such a performance in T20Is format.
Captain Shakib Al Hasan, the leading all-rounder in the world in the all formats of cricket following his highest contribution with bat and ball in the third one-day international to earn a win at Chattogram, at the same ground deprived the England from a clean sweep keeping up his momentum in the first T20 on Thursday.
England predictably made a flying start with Phil Salt Jos Buttler and gave strong foundation after the opening stands making 80 runs just half way of their innings.
At that stage it looked England were going to pile up a mammoth total for Bangladesh to chase. But Nasum Ahmed fired down wide of off Phil Salt and that edged his bat before the ball going to Litton Das globs, despite the English batter taking review, Litton won successfully taking the catch.
Bangladesh had the first breakthrough on 81 by 10 overs with sending Salt to dressing room for 38 off 35 balls but it looked Buttler took the responsibility at his shoulder to keep up England’s progress.
But after taking the first wicket, Tigers’ bowlers looked had the perfect line and length to halt the England hard hitters when they got out another danger man Dawid Mallan in a quick succession.
This time Mallan going to play a big hit over the mid-wicket, shuffled to the pitch but could execute perfectly, as snacks a flat chance at long when Nazmul Hossain Shanto barely had to move to take the catch nearer to the rope.
Despite losing two wickets in a short interval, Buttler looked steady and kept his aggressive approach having another good partner Ben Duckett when they scored 47 runs in 4.1 overs before the later was being bowled by Mustafizur Rahman scoring 20 off 13 runs.
English saw the real blow when Mustafiz and Hassan Mahmud struck successively in a span of two balls on 135 runs sending Duckett in the last ball of 15th and Buttler in the first ball of 16th over.
Mustafizur Rahman, who had no good time in the ODI series, had the big fish with getting the most danger man out. Buttler before being caught by Shanto smacked 67 off of 42 balls cracking four fours and as many sixes. England finally could manage 156 runs for six wickets.
In reply to a mediocre target, Tigers looked strong when they were responding strongly with moving to expected run rate scoring 33 for one wicket in 3.3 overs courtesy of quick knocks from Litton Das and Rony Talukder.
But the wheels fell quickly from that point on, when Litton Das again failed to shine as he got out for only 12 runs and Rony Talukder followed the way to being dismissed for 21 off 14 balls.
But the Tigers did not lose the nerve as Shanto and Towhid Ridoy played a stunning partnership of 65 off 33 balls as they scored at a breathtaking pace.
While the pair were at the crease Bangladesh had been cantering along at nearly 12 an over, as the scoring rate did not slow, despite Towhid Ridoy and Shanto getting out in a span of four runs on 108 and 112 runs respectively.
Nazmul Hossain Shanto scored his fastest 50 against England off just 30 balls when he hit four consecutive boundaries in an over to Wood before being bowled by him for 51 and Towhid Ridoy scored 24 off 17 balls with two fours a six.
Then Shakib Al Hassan and Afif Hossain remained unbeaten giving England no chance to make any breakthrough scoring 24 and 34 and 15 runs respectively, as Bangladesh reached to target of 158 for four wickets in 18 overs.
Shakib featured his 34 runs innings off 24 balls with six four boundaries.
