The coastal areas of the country have been inundated with tidal salt water due to the impact of the cyclone. The tide level on Wednesday was about one meter higher than normal.

The local administration has reported that sea water was entering at least 50 places along the coast of Chattogram and Cox's Bazar. However, locals say more brackish water has entered the area.

Mominul Haq, Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram District said, the tidal water has entered Banshkali of Chattogram district with through 5 points, Sandwip through 3 points and Anwara upazila through two points.

At low tide, the water receded and there was no loss of life or damage, he added.

In Cox’s Bazar district, the Water Development Board (WDB) officials confirmed that the saline water has entered through at least 45 points across the district.

Prodip Kumar Gushami, Executive Engineer of Water Development Board Cox’s Bazar said, the most affected area in the district is Moheskhali, Kutubdia and St Martin Island.

The main jetty on St Martin's Island has collapsed due to tidal and cyclonic winds, said Nur Mohammad, chairman of the local union council.

Due to the effect of cyclone in full moon, the tidal water of Karnaphuli river has risen in the container yards of Chattogram port. Workers of various organizations using the port said that knee-deep water accumulated in different yards around 12 noon on Wednesday.

They said, water has risen on the road of gate number 4 including the CCT referral unit, NCT, ICD unit, and the overflow yard of the port.

However, Omar Farooq, Secretary of Ctg Port Authority, said that even though the water in the lower yard rose due to the high tide, it went down in an hour. There is nothing to worry or panic about it.

An Air Force helicopter rescued 12 sailors of the ship MV Sanvalli-4, which was stranded near Bhasan Char in the Bay of Bengal.

Lieutenant Commander Habibur Rahman, Staff Officer Operation, of Coast Guard East zone, said the ship's bottom was ruptured after being hit by a submarine near the Island on Tuesday. No rescue vehicle was able to reach the sinking ship due to inclement weather and low water depth in the area.

Later on Wednesday afternoon, an Air Force helicopter rescued 12 sailors and brought them to the Air Force's Zahurul Haque base in Chattogram, he said.
