The beginning of Ramadan to be known by today

Whether the holy month of Ramadan will start on Wednesday or Thursday will be ascertained by today.

A meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee will be held today to announce the starting date of the holy Ramadan.

The meeting will be held after the Maghrib prayer at 6:45 pm at the conference room of Islamic Foundation’s Baitul Mukarram office in the capital, according to a press release issued by the Islamic Foundation on Monday.

The meeting will be chaired by the State Minister for Religious Affairs Md Faridul Haque Khan.

The decision regarding the commencement of Ramadan in Bangladesh will be taken after discussing the news of moon sighting of the holy month in the year 1442 AH.

The press release requested the people to inform their respective deputy commissioners or Upazila Nirbahi Officers or the committee through the following phone and fax numbers if they get a sight of the moon anywhere in the country.

The phone numbers are - 9559493, 9555947, 9556407 and 9558337, and the fax numbers are - 9563397 and 9555951.

Meanwhile, the moon of the holy month of Ramadan was not seen in the sky of Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

Therefore, the country completed 30 days of the month of Shaban on Monday and Ramadan will start from Tuesday in Saudi Arabia.
