The state-owned mobile operator Teletalk has failed to comply with the government’s directive to provide all its users with three-day 5GB complimentary data on Sunday following the restoration of mobile internet.

As per the announcement of State Minister for Post and Telecommunication Zunaid Ahmed Palak, following the resumption of mobile internet, all private mobile operators have provided free data packs to their respective users.

The three-day free data pack will expire today, but many Teletalk users are yet to get the service.

According to sources, Teletalk is still preparing a list of its users who will get the free data packs. While ‘ data packs provided by other telecom operator are going to expire today.

Many users alleged that the state-owned mobile operator often makes such delay which keeps Teletalk out of competition with other telecom

operators. Managing Director (Additional Charge) of Teletalk Nurul Mabud Chowdhury told the Bangladesh Post that only the users who are affected by the internet outage are getting free data packs.”

When asked why not all the affected users are getting free data packs soon after the announcement of the state minister, he said the customer care department is looking into the matter.

An official of the customer care department, on condition of anonymity, told the Bangladesh Post, “Everyday a certain number of users (around 1 lakh) are getting the free data packs.”

In reply to another question why users did not get any data pack soon after the announcement, the official said, every affected user will gradually get the internet balance.

Contacted, President of Bangladesh Mobile Phone Consumers Association Mohiuddin Ahmed said, “The data packs are provided as per the decision of the government. No customers’ opinion has been taken in this regard. However, delay in providing the free data packs indicates that the Teletalk is lagging behind in competition with other telcom companies.”

This correspondent tried to contact Director General of System and Service Department of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Mohammad Khalil-Ur-Rahman, over phone, but he could not be reached.
