Tangail AL leader accused of rape again, UP member held over schoolgirl rape in Shariatpur

Tangail Awami League leader Golam Kibria alias Boro Monir has again been accused of raping a college girl in his own flat in the city.

The college student lodged a case against the controversial ruling party leader.

Turag police station’s officer in charge Mostafa Anowar said the case was recorded on Saturday.

He said the girl made the complaint by calling the national emergency number (999) around 9:00pm on Friday. Police went to the spot and found the girl who was later admitted to the one-stop crisis center of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. She filed a written complaint with the police station and the complaint was later recorded as a case.

The OC said the victim said she is from Tangail. She got acquainted with Boro Monir on Facebook. She came to Dhaka two days ago. The girl alleged that she was raped at a house in Turag area yesterday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Uttara division’s commissioner Md Shahjahan said a girl filed a rape case against Golam Kibria alias Boro Monir. Effort is on to arrest the accused. Earlier on April 5 last year, Golam Kibria was made accused in a case over raping a 17-year old girl in Tangail Sadar.

Golam Kibria is the vice-president of Tangail town Awami League. He is the elder brother of Tangail-2 lawmaker Tanvir Hasan alias Choto Monir.

Golam Kibria is also the secretary general of Tangail district bus-minibus owners association.

Meanwhile UP member arrested over rape of school girl in Shariatpur

UNB from Shariatpur reports; A union parishad (UP) member was arrested over the gang rape of a female school student in Shariatpur’s Naria upazila on Saturday.

Liton Laskar, 50, is a member of Ward 3 of the Kedarpur Union Parishad of the upazila.

Liton and Sanjay Majumder, a part-time teacher of the school, called the victim to the library after the school closed on Sunday (March 24) and raped her, said Shariatpur Additional Superintendent of Police (Naria Circle) Ahsan Habib.

According to the police, Liton, who is the general secretary of the school’s managing committee and a member of Kedarpur Union Parishad, had been harassing the girl for a long time.

They threatened to kill the victim if she told anyone.

After going home, the victim did not tell anyone at first, but on Thursday, she informed her mother and aunt. Later, the student was admitted to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital.

On Friday afternoon, the victim’s mother filed a case at Naria Police Station, accusing Liton and Sanjay. Later, police arrested UP member Liton from the Mulfatganj area.

Shariatpur ASP (Naria Circle) Ahsan Habib said efforts are underway to arrest the other accused, Sanjay.
