Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman said that differences in party affiliation, ideology, and religion are natural, but it is crucial to be remained united for the sake of national interest.

He emphasised the need for taking action against anyone working against national interest, not just ISKCON.

He made these remarks on Thursday after meeting with the Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus, at the state guest house Jamuna.

The Jamaat Ameer mentioned, “I discussed the current situation of the country with the Chief Adviser. We discussed how the nation can progress toward elections peacefully and orderly. Discussions were held on forming national unity beyond distinctions of race, religion, or ethnicity and on enhancing the efficiency of the administration.”

Regarding rising commodity prices, he said, “Ramadan is approaching, and we must ensure that unscrupulous traders do not create artificial crises. We have

shared suggestions on this matter.”

On the topic of national unity, he said, “We also discussed the law-and-order situation and recent events in the country. We agreed on the need to take the country forward collectively with all citizens. Those involved in activities against national interests must be brought under the law. For this, national unity is essential. Differences in opinion, party, or ethnicity will exist, but we must agree on national interests.”

When asked if there were discussions about elections, he said, “No discussions on elections took place today.”

In response to a question about the proposal from some quarters to ban ISKCON, he said, “It is not just about ISKCON; action must be taken against anyone who stands against national interests.”

When asked about BNP’s call for national unity and expressions of concern, he said, “National unity was certainly discussed. We also discussed concerns, but not in a way that implies the country is in dire straits. We need to identify those disrupting peace and order in the country and address these challenges collectively through national unity.”
