The price of sugar is going to increase in the country yet again.

Bangladesh Sugar Refiners Association has informed about the decision to increase the price of sugar amid the rise in the prices of various daily essential products and services.

The Association of Owners of Sugar Refineries said on Thursday that the new price will be effective from February 1.

Before this, the leaders of the organization held several meetings with the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission regarding the price increase.

As a result of the increase in price, the consumer will have to pay Tk 4 more and buy one kg of packaged sugar at Tk 112. Earlier this sugar was Tk 108 per kg.

From the first day of the month of February, the price of refined open sugar will be Tk 107 per kg, which was Tk 102 earlier.

On November 17 last year, the price of packaged sugar was increased by Tk 13 to Tk 108 per kg. Earlier it was Tk 95 per kg.

There has been a shortage of sugar in the market for the past few months. In the meantime, on the last day of this week, the news of the increase in the price of daily necessities came.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, the annual demand of sugar in the country is 18 lakh to 20 lakh tonnes.

Sugar production in the country's state-owned mills is 30000 tonnes. The rest of the demand has to be imported from abroad.
