Stocks rebound on both bourses

After witnessing a downward trend in the last session, stocks on Wednesday rebounded in the Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges as investors remained active on sector-wise issues.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 58.49 points or 1.01 per cent to settle at 5,872.58. Two other indices also ended higher with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, rose 12.17 points to finish at 2,032.28 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 9.19 points to close at 1,277.57. Out of 401 issues traded, 305 advanced, 52 declined and 44 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

However, daily trade turnover plunged to Tk 4228.31 million on the country's premier bourse, which was Tk 4,655.49 million at the previous session of the week. ORIONINFU dominated the turnover chart, closely followed by FUWANGCER, CENTRALPHL, GOLDENSON and ORIONPHARM.

SP Ceramics was the day's top gainer, rising 10 per cent, while VAMLRBBF was the worst loser, shedding 3.51 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also rebounded with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -gaining 106.49 points to settle at 16,760.45 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX rising 62.20 points to close at 10,062.59.

Of the issues traded, 58 declined, 129 advanced and 20 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city's bourse traded 44.55 lakh shares and mutual fund units with turnover value of Taka 17.90 crore.
