The government will set up special health camps at 300 constituencies simultaneously across the country. Nearly 5 lakh people will receive treatment for free at the special camps, to be held on February 28 next year. The programme has been taken as part of the government’s yearlong celebration of the “Mujib Year” marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Former health minister and chief of parliament’s heath service sub-committee for Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s 100th birth anniversary celebration Dr AFM Ruhul Haque told this at a press conference at the parliament’s Media Centre yesterday.
Reading out a written speech at the briefing, Ruhul said the committee will organised a series of programme including a marathon on Dhaka’s Manik Mia Avenue on November 5 and a 10-day special health fair beginning on December 18.
Cycle rally in Dhaka
Besides, the parliament will also arrange special heath awareness programmes including a cycle rally in Dhaka on March 24, said Ruhul Haque. With the slogan “Suhtho Sobal Janti Gori, Mujib Barsho Palon Kori (Build a healthy nation, celebrate Mujib Year)”, the rally will begin at 6am on Manik Mia Avenue.
The rally will parade the roads starching from Dhanmondi 27 to Shankar-Zigatal intersection-City College then will end on Manik Mia Avenue.
Anyone above 18 years, who is fit to ride a bike, can participate in the rally. Registration opens on March 5. Explaining the objective of the rally, Ruhul said that it will raise awareness among people on non-communicable diseases including heart disease, brain stroke, diabetes, cancer, and kidney respiratory diseases.
Nearly two thousand cyclists are expected to participate in the rally. Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will inaugurate the programme while Deputy Speaker Md. Fazle Rabbi Miah, and Chief Whip Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury will attend as special guests. Members of the committee Dr Md. Habibe Millat, Dr Roostum Ali Farazi, Rustum Ali Faraji, Nasir Uddin, Dr Sayeda Zakia Noor and Dr Abdul Aziz, among others, were also present at the press conference.
