Six among 17 accused arrested on charges of leaking question paper confessed their crime before a Dhaka court on Tuesday.
All the 17 accused were sent to the Dhaka Central Jail in located in Keraniganj.
However, details of the confessional statements could not be known immediately.
Those who gave their confessional statements before the magistrates were Syed Abed Ali, Md. Khalilur Rahman, Md. Sakhawat Hossain, Saim Hossain and Liton Sarkar were produced before different magistrates for recording their confessional statements.
Other 11 accused were also sent to the jail after rejecting their bail petitions. They are Md. Noman Siddique, Jahangir Alam, Jahangir Alam, SM Alamgir Kabir, Priyonath Roy, Md. Jahidul Islam, Md. Abu Jafor, Md. Shahadat Hossain,
Md. Mamunur Rashid, Niamul Hasan, Abu Soleman Md Sohel and Syed Sohanur Rahman Siam.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Haque passed the order after Jewel Chakma, an Additional Special Police Super of Cyber Investigation and Operations of Criminal Investigation Department and also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before it with a forwarding report.
In the forwarding report, the IO said all the arrestees were involved with leaking out the question papers. They have been committing such offences for a long time. So they need to be confined in jail until the investigation is completed, said the IO.
Question paper leak: CID files case against 40-60 persons
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has filed a case against 50-60 persons in connection with the leak of question papers of various recruitment examinations, including those of the Public Service Commission (PSC).
At least 31 people, including 17 who have been arrested, were named in the case filed under the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (Amendment) Act, 2012.
Sub-Inspector Nippon Chandra Chand of the CID’s Cyber Investigation and Operations unit filed the case with Paltan Model police station as the plaintiff on Tuesday.
Earlier, 17 people including three PSC officers were arrested in raids for the last two days.
The arrestees include PSC chairman’s former chauffeur Abed Ali.
The CID also detained Abed Ali’s son Syed Sohanur Rahman Siam, also the relief and disaster management secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Dhaka North unit. The organisation expelled him after his detention, according to a press release of the unit.
The CID team also detained Auditor Priyanath Roy, Narayanganj Regional Passport Office security guard Shahadat Hossain, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital medical technician Niamun Hasan, and five others named Md Zahidul Islam, Md Mamunur Rashid, Sakhawat Hossain, Sayem Hossain, and Liton Sarkar.
A recent investigation by a private media outlet uncovered a scandal involving leaked question papers for 30 recruitment exams, including the BCS.
The report revealed that a syndicate of six officials and employees of the PSC had been involved in leaking exam questions for a long time.
A businessman named Md Sohel, who reportedly went missing on Sunday, is also among the arrestees, said a CID official but none confirmed this on record.
BCL expels Siam after detention over question leak
The Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has expelled Syed Sohanur Rahman Siam after he was detained by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over allegations of leaking question papers for public service recruitment examinations.
The CID detained 17 people, including three officials of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) on Monday.
The detainees include PSC chairman’s former chauffeur Abed Ali and his son Siam, the former relief and disaster management secretary of the BCL’s Dhaka North unit.
In a release late last night, the BCL said it expelled him for engaging in activities that go against the organisation’s principles and ethics.
