Shops, markets to shut after 8 pm from today

The government on Sunday  decided to close shops, shopping malls and markets across the country after 8 pm from Monday to save electricity and fuel.

The decision was taken at a meeting at the Ministry of Labor and Employment on Sunday. Minister of State for Labor and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian presided over the meeting while both city corporations of Dhaka, Employers Federation, FBCCI, MCCI, BGMEA, BKMEA, Bangladesh Shop Owners Association, Dhaka Chamber and others association and representatives were present. 

After the meeting, the state minister said, “We all agreed on the issue and took the decision in the meeting. Its observance will start from tomorrow (Monday).”

She said, “Business representatives had made a demand. They demanded to keep open their businesses till 10 pm from July 1 to July 10 ahead of Eid ul Adha. We will send this proposal in the form of summary to the Prime Minister’s Office.”

Dock, jetty, station or airport and transport service terminal office, vegetables, meat, fish, dairy products, bread, pastries, sweets and flower shops, medicines store, surgical instruments, bandages or medical supplies, shop for sale of necessary items for burial, tobacco, cigarettes, drinks, ice, newspapers, magazines and retail stores, petrol pumps and non-motorised motor vehicle service station, barber and hairdressing shop, any waste disposal or health system, any industry or organisation that provides energy, light or water to the people, clubs, hotels, restaurants, food shops, movies or theaters, will be out of the purview of this rule.
