  • Over 100 RMG factories shut for indefinite period
  • 123 factories vandalised in Gazipur

The law enforcers have found evidences of conspiracies by BNP-Jamaat nexus to paint a negative image of globally recognized Ready-Made Garment (RMG) sectors in Bangladesh.

They said that such attempts are being made after failing to launch any effective anti-government movement to destabilize the country’s major foreign currency earner RMG sectors involving some greedy labour leaders.

Various intelligence agencies have already gathered details about those who are involved in the anti-state conspiracies to destroy the glorious global image of the country’s vital RMG sectors.

The security forces are also planning to take necessary legal steps against the real culprits of the recent deadly RMG unrest.

However, considering the issue as a sensitive matter due to involvement of thousands of women working in the RMG sector, top government authority are taking strict measures very cautiously.

This is why security forces will take stern action only against the main culprits. It is known that general workers will not be harassed in any way in the action against the culprits.

Ordinary workers will not be punished as the government policy makers became sure that they were totally misguided by leaders of pro-BNP-Jamaat workers.

This is why Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently requested RMG workers to accept the wage which was fixed by the RMG sector wage board.

She also assured them that her government will provide more and more benefits for garment workers from time to time.

The PM warned that if the workers don't accept the newly declared minimum salary and continue to take to the streets influenced by vested quarters, it may cause their injuries or even death.

The instigators will create such a situation that workers will lose their jobs and will have to return to their villages, the Prime Minister said.

As part of their anti-state plans, even after the newly announced enhanced salary structure, the right wing political alliance are still  desperately trying  to exploit the ordinary RMG workers mostly in the RMG hubs-- Gazipur and city’s outskirts Savar , Ashulia and Dhamrai.

They are spending huge amount of money to carry out violent activities by hiring some pro-BNP-Jammat worker to trigger the unrests.

The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Industrial Police Md Zakir Hossain Khan on Saturday also disclosed that they smell a rat behind the unrest in the RMG industry in Gazipur.

He further said, “The government has already announced wages and our understanding is that a group is instigating the RMG workers to continue launching movements. We are able to identify those who are provoking the RMG workers.’’

The senior police officer said that they have information that destructive activities were carried out in 123 factories. He again alleged that a group is instigating in Konabari. Industrial police and intelligence cells are closely monitoring the situation.

Around 130 RMG factories in Savar, Ashulia and Dhamrai areas have suspended operations for an indefinite period amid the BNP-Jamaat instigated RMG unrest.

Mohammad Sarwar Alam, superintendent of Ashulia Industrial Police-1, said the authorities declared a shutdown for their factories indefinitely under Section 13(1) of the labour law.
