The second set of Metrorail has arrived in the country. Project officials said six coaches arrived at the jetty near the Metrorail depot in the capital's Diabari on Tuesday evening.

Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited managing director MAN Siddique on Wednesday confirmed the arrival of second metro rail set in the depot.

The coaches are scheduled to be picked up at the depot on Wednesday. The second set from Japan arrived at Mongla port on May 9.

After completing various activities related to customs and VAT at Mongla port, the second set of metro rail started its journey towards Dhaka on May 24.

DTMCL sources also said that the barge carrying the second metro rail set reached on May 27. It was anchored there due to the ban on navigation for cyclone Yaas.

Earlier, the first set of Metrorail reached Dhaka on April 21. The first set of six coaches was run experimentally. Each train has 2,308 seats, Metrorail officials said.
