Scope still exists to further enhance capacity of Ctg Port: Shipping Minister

Shipping Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam has said that there is still significant scope to further increase the capacity of Chattogram Port.

He made the remarks on Sunday afternoon after visiting the NCT-5 jetty at the port. The visit marked his first official tour to Chattogram after assuming office, during he inspected the country’s main seaport.

Speaking after the inspection, the minister said, “The way Chattogram Port has progressed is positive. However, there is still much more that can be done. We want to work in a coordinated manner to utilize these opportunities.”

He said that there are plans to implement several new projects under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. In addition, a number of international organizations have shown interest in the landlord model and are willing to provide investment and technical support. 

He said, would help improve the efficiency of container terminal operations.

The minister also mentioned that several issues were identified during the visit. “Initial decisions have already been taken on some issues, while others will be finalized after inter-ministerial discussions in Dhaka,” he added.

Highlighting the government’s priorities, he said sectors that contribute most to economic growth and prosperity are being given top priority, and Chattogram Port is one of the key sectors in this regard.

During his two-day visit, the minister also inspected various port, road, and rail-related projects. He reviewed operational efficiency, infrastructural limitations, and opportunities for development, emphasizing the need to boost import-export trade, reduce costs, and ensure faster services.
