The Supreme Court has cancelled its annual vacation this year to make up for the time lost due to the Covid-19 situation.
As per the holiday chart, both the Appellate Division and the High Court Division of the Supreme Court were scheduled to remain on vacation from September 10 to September 30. Now the vacation has been scrapped.
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain took the decision following consultation with other judges, considering the Covid-19 pandemic situation. He directed all the concerned to continue the judiciary activities without taking vacation leave.
Registrar General of the Supreme Court Md Ali Akbar issued a circular in this regard on Saturday night on the instructions of the Chief Justice.
The circular says that the decision was made during a full-court meeting chaired by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain. Judges of both the divisions of the Supreme Court joined the meeting through videoconferencing.
The Supreme Court had also cancelled its all annual vacations of 2020 to recover the gaps caused due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Bangladesh has been facing an unusual situation since the beginning of 2020. The country imposed nationwide lockdowns and shutdowns several times to check the spread of the coronavirus.
