After a long investigation, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on Monday claimed that Salman Shah, the iconic film hero of his age, had actually committed suicide.

The elite investigation agency of the Bangladesh Police also concluded that the superstar hanged himself for family disputes following his relationship with actress Shabnur.

While addressing a press briefing, PBI head Deputy Inspector General, Banaj Kumar Majumder, made the disclosure. He also mentioned five reasons behind the tragic suicide of Salman Shah, that included his extreme level of intimacy with Shabnur, who was also a super star at the time. Other reasons that forced Salmah Shah to commit suicide are--conjugal disputes with his wife Samira Haque, complicated family issues centring his mother Nilufar Chowdhury Neela, and frustration of having no child.

The PBI chief made these remarks referring to the confessional statements of some eyewitnesses.
In her confessional statement, Monoara Begum, former domestic help of Salman Shah disclosed that he wanted to keep relations with both Shabnur and Samira as he loved both of them.

This triggered disputes between Salman and his wife Samira, the statement read.
In 1996, Salman’s father late Kamaruddin Chowdhury, first lodged an unnatural death case . But he later turned it into a murder case when one Rezvi Ahmed claimed that he had killed Salman with the help of Salman's wife and mother-in-law and eight other associates. However, Rezvi later changed his statement before the police.

Detective Branch( DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police ( DMP), Criminal Investigation Department ( CID) of police and a judicial probe body investigated the case separately. They submitted their reports saying that it was suicide . But Salman Shah's family repeatedly rejected all the reports.

On December 7 of 2016, a Dhaka court asked PBI to carry out fresh inquiry into the case.
After the press briefing, Shafiqul Haque Hira, father-in-law of Salman Shah expressed his satisfaction. He said that the PBI had finally unearthed the truth.

He said, “ We always said that my daughter Samira did not kill Salman. Now we are happy.” But Alamgir Kumkum, maternal uncle of Salman Shah, rejected the report again.

He alleged that PBI did not talk to Samira’s maternal aunt Ruby Sultana. He also claimed that Ruby Sultana was the witness in the case. He vowed to start a legal battle against the PBI report.
He said,“ Many questions were still unanswered.” In a video message from the US, Ruby claimed her own brother 'Rumi' killed Salman at the instruction of her Chinese husband John and the family of Samira Hoque.
