People are now largely depending on air travel for their Eid homebound journeys with the government restriction on vehicular movement still continuing.

The country’s state-owned and private airline information showed that until now, more than 70 percent of air tickets for different domestic destinations had already been sold out. The rest are expected to be sold within the next one or two days.

The authorities concerned are allowing extra flight operations on the domestic routes considering the holidaymakers’ rush on Eid.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines deputy manager (Public Relation) Tahera Khandaker told Bangladesh Post,“Biman will operate extra flights besides its scheduled flights on the domestic routes. Based on the flight slot increase, Biman will operate extra flights on Jashore and Saidpur routes and wide body aircraft (based on demand) will be operated on Chattogram route”.

To make air ticket purchase easy and affordable, Biman this time has announced a 10 percent discount on ticket purchase through mobile apps, MFS, debit and credit card,” Tahera added.

US- Bangla Airlines general manager Kamrul Islam told Bangladesh Post, “The numbers of flights we are operating are less than our existing frequencies. Tickets in all domestic routes except for Cox’s Bazar have almost been sold out ahead of Eid”.

“There are high demands ahead of Eid, we will operate 36 domestic flights on different domestic routes daily. Maintaining the health safety guidelines, US-Bangla will operate five flights on the Chattogram route daily, three flights to Sylhet, Jessore, and Saidpur respectively and four flights to Barishal and Rajshahi,” he added.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) announced the closure of domestic flights from April 5 due to restrictions imposed by the government. Later, from April 21, limited flights were allowed on all domestic routes except for Cox’s Bazar.

At present, US-Bangla Airlines operates three daily flights on the Chattogram route, two daily flights to Sylhet, two daily flights to Syedpur, two daily flights to Jashore and one daily flight to Barisal and Rajshahi.

Biman Bangladesh operates three daily flights on Chattogram route and two daily flights to Jashore, Sylhet, Syedpur and Barishal. Biman has temporarily stopped flights on the Rajshahi route.

NovoAir operates three daily flights on Chattogram route, two daily flights to Jashore, Sylhet and Syedpur and one daily flight to Barishal and Rajshahi.
