As COVID-19 pushed the political parties to look for many alternative ways of mobilization, the ruling Awami League has now planned to change the present political landscape with taking a bunch of organizational measures to revamp the party from the centre to the grass roots.

Keeping this in mind, the ruling party leaders and workers, after a gap of about six months, are presently seen busy with activities aimed at strengthening the organisation.

As part of the move, the party has decided to form full-fledged committees of different units to strengthen organisational capacities alongside the strengthening of a cleansing drive to offside intruders in the party and leaders those who are involved in various controversial activities, including corruption and irregularities.

Party sources said, a list of 8,500 controversial leaders of AL and its various associate organisations has been prepared across the country. AL president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has prepared the list with the help of party’s trusted leaders as well as various intelligence agencies.

These decisions came at a secretary-level meeting held on Wednesday at the party’s central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.

Chaired by party general secretary Obaidul Quader, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the President of Awami League, attended the meeting through a video conference.

Another meeting in participation with all the executive committee, party’s highest decision making body, members of the party is scheduled to be held on September 10 at Ganabhaban, the official residence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Earlier on Wednesday, being the party chief, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina already has ordered for the formation of full-fledged committees of all the units.

Party leaders said, full committees of the party’s five associate bodies will be announced by this month while councils of the expired committees of the district and upazila branches will also begin soon.

AL leaders said they already have started coming out on the field directly and physically instead of virtual activities. Party offices now see a lively atmosphere almost after several months, but all the health guidelines are being maintained properly.

According to party sources, councils of only 32 out of the 78 organisational district committees across the country have so far been completed. Although conferences were held, most of them do not have full-fledged committees. Only the names of the presidents and general secretaries of the district committees have been announced. But, this time full committees of all the units will be announced.

Besides, a list with the names of leaders of various associates and like-minded organisations of the party has also been prepared. This list is being verified so that any intruder could not stay in these organisations and spoil the AL.

Meanwhile, party sources said, more than 5,000 among 8,500 blacklisted controversial leaders are said to have been identified as intruders in the Awami League and its different organisations. They have become leaders with the help of many senior and influential leaders of the party. But, this time, they would no more be able to stay in the party.
