The garment sector is playing an important role in the domestic economic development. Even in Corona, the factory owners have run the business with various risks. At present there is a lot of work order in our factories. The country's garment factories currently employ about 4 million people.
BGMEA President Faruq Hasan sais this at an exchange of views with journalists at Mahabub Ali Hall of BGMEA building in Khulshi area of the city on Sunday.
BGMEA President Faruq Hasan said the garment sector is playing a big role in the economy of Bangladesh. When you go to work, you have to face problems, you have to solve them. We have worked with the government in adverse situations. Many of our garment factory owners died in Corona, but the garment workers did not die. We were aware enough at the time, still are.
He said a ship had arrived from Italy. Will be back in Italy tomorrow with the product. Chittagong Port is now cooperating properly. However, we are facing problems through customs and bonds. This is what we are noticing. In order to survive in the world market and take advantage of new opportunities, tariff and bond barriers need to be removed. Bond licenses need to simplify procedures such as the inclusion of new raw materials and other related materials in conjunction with the HS code. Moreover, it is important to revise policies and procedures in line with market demand and time to create a conducive environment for business development. In case of any harassment in customs and bonds, all of us traders will work together.
BGMEA leaders said that our factories are of good quality. I have told the owners of the garment sector not to sell the product if they do not get the price. As much as we have been able to raise the price of the product, our expenditure has not decreased at that rate. In particular, the cost of importing raw materials has gone up. Besides, prices of yarn, container transport cost, dyes, chemicals, gas and electricity have also gone up.
BGMEA president said, “We had a bad time in Corona. Many foreign companies went bankrupt and we did not receive any payment. That burden is being borne by many of our factory owners. At present a lot of work orders are coming to our factories. We have to work together to maintain this trend.
