‘RMG industry contributes significantly to national economy’

Garment industry plays a very important role in the economy of Bangladesh, said the Chairman of Chattogram Port, Real Admiral Mohammad Sohail.

He said in order to continue the trend of export growth, the port authorities will try to carry out import-export activities quickly despite various limitations.

 The Port Chairman said while addressing a view exchange meeting with a delegation led by BGMEA First Vice President Syed Nazrul Islam on Tuesday.

 The first vice-president of BGMEA said that due to various infrastructural problems including the lack of export orders in view of the ongoing global economic recession, the garment industry, which is the main export sector of Bangladesh, is facing severe challenges.  With the help of everyone including the government, the garment industry has continued to try to turn around the situation.

  He sought the full cooperation of the port authorities in carrying out the import and export activities of the garment industry quickly.

 He emphasized on adequate infrastructural development including speedy commencement of Bay-Terminal activities to increase the capacity of the port to meet the challenge of exporting 100 billion US dollars by 2030.

 The delegation included BGMEA Vice President RakibulAlam Chowdhury, Director AM Shafiul Karim (Khokon) and M EhsanulHaque.
