Reasons and reality of Dr. Momen’s speech

Bangladesh has numerous issues with India to resolve. Because of its vast bordering areas interaction among millions of people of the two countries are continuing every day and new issues are coming up with new concerns. The border killing, which has been reduced significantly over the years, was a long- standing problem with India. Recent Land port issues also created a great concern as the Bangladesh side is facing a huge amount of extortion for goods per truck and due to that wide-ranging resentment has been created among the business people of Bangladesh. The Teesta Barrage is a burning issue today for the people of this region.  Millions of people have been suffering from the impact of the Teesta.

Transit, transshipment of Indian goods through land, sea and airports are going on smoothly. On the other hand, the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina didn’t allow terror activities on Bangladesh soil and that is why ,the Indian states bordering Bangladesh are reaping its benefits and during his visit to India some chief ministers of India expressed their gratitude to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and in reply to that our foreign minister Dr. A K A Momen asked them to talk to their headquarters to address all those issues which have been creating everyday problem and suffering of the people of Bangladesh. And as soon as those issues are resolved the government of Sheikh Hasina would be benefited. More precisely India should resolve all the issues so that the people of Bangladesh get the idea that Sheikh Hasina is competent enough to deal with India and as long as Sheikh Hasina would be in power the peaceful and mutual cooperation would be strengthened and a sustainable peace would be ensured.

The media inadvertently has chosen a certain portion of the speech as it was so wide and extensive that the TV can’t take the whole speech in only 15 seconds. But the opposition political parties didn’t try to take his entire speech, including the views of two chief ministers enjoying peace in their respective states due to the cooperation from the Bangladesh government of Sheikh Hasina, into consideration. The media didn’t have enough time to think that the partial view of the speech can give a different message.

Some opposition political parties, which have a tendency to find fault with the government, had tried to fish in the troubled water. But what role did the ruling party play in this regard? The Awami League general secretary had outright rejected and denounced the speech of the foreign minister, who is regarded as the government’s second man to talk to the international community on behalf of the government. Another funny thing was observed that a presidium member was talking to the Press that Dr. Momen was nobody in Awami League, but it is a fact that Dr. Momen is a number one member of Sylhet Awami League and he was nominated as a candidate by the highest body of the party. The disowning culture is considered an escapist attitude. There is no credit in ignoring or not taking responsibility of a colleague. A government can’t deny or denounce its foreign minister.
