Rallies banned around Parliament

Parliament session begins tomorrow

The 14th session of the current 11th Parliament is going to begin tomorrow (Wednesday). 

President Md Abdul Hamid on August 16 summoned the session. The 14th session is scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm on the day with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair, said secretary of the Parliament Secretariat KM Abdus Salam, 

Before commencing the session proceedings on the day, the Parliamentary Business Advisory Committee is likely to hold a meeting with Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair to fix the duration and agenda of the session.

The 13th session of the 11th Parliament, which was actually the budget session of 2021-22 fiscal year, was prorogued on July 3 after 12 sittings. According to the country’s Constitution, there is an obligation to convene the Parliament session within 60 days after the end of each session.

Meanwhile, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed restrictions on carrying all kinds of firearms, explosives and other harmful objects around the National Parliament Building from Tuesday midnight due to the 14th session.

In a circular issued on Monday, the DMP also imposed ban on holding rally and bringing out procession around the Parliament Building during the session. 

According to the DMP’s circular, signed by its Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam, the restricted areas are- Mahakhali crossing of Mymensingh road to Bangla Motor crossing via old Airport Road, western part of Bangla Motor link road to SAARC Fountain at Sonargaon crossing, eastern part of Panthapath to Farmgate via Green Road link road, Shyamali crossing to Dhanmondi-16 (old 27) link road on Mirpur road, Rokeya Swarani link road to Bijoy Swarani Parjatan crossing via old 9th division (airplane) crossing, eastern part of Indira road to Manik Mia Avenue’s western part and the restricted area of Parliament Building and all the roads and lanes in the area.
