Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have raided Kalabagan Krira Chakra Club in Dhaka, in search of a potential illegal casino, report agencies. The elite force started the drive some time after 7pm on Friday. RAB Executive Magistrate Md Gausul Azam and the club's president, Shafiqul Alam Firoz, were also present during the raid.
Before the drive, the RAB detained Firoz, who is also a Bangladesh Krishak League leader, on Friday. RAB-2 Commanding Officer Ashique Billah told reporters that they detained Firoz from the club around 1:30pm. From right before his detention, the elite force encircled the club premises. Firoz is a Central Executive Committee member of the ruling party’s affiliated organization, said another committee member Azizul Islam Nannu. RAB sources citing intelligence reports said the club has been operating an illegal casino.
