Purchase body okays import of 50,000 tonnes of wheat

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Wednesday approved a total of 11 procurement proposals worth Tk 7,572.73 crore including import of 50,000 tonnes of wheat with Tk176 crore from Singapore.

The approval was given at the CCGP meeting with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, the Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said 11 proposals have been approved at the meeting.

“The total cost of the approved proposals has been estimated at Tk 7,573 crore. Of this, Tk 7,136 crore will be spent from government funds and Tk 436.73 crore from local banks and the World Bank,” he said.

He said seven proposals from the power department, one from the energy and mineral resources department, one from the industry ministry, one from the ministry of disaster management and relief and one from the food ministry have been approved.

In reply to a question, the Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said   price of gas in the country is rising due to the Russia-Ukraine war. 

“We never imagined there would be a war between Ukraine and Russia. As the war draws to a close, we have to think about how we will deal with the country's economy,” he added.

The Finance Minister said the proposal to extend the duration of five Quick Rental projects by two years has been approved. 

“They applied for an extension of five years but we extended the period for 2 years, he said adding that, time has been extended on no electricity no payment basis. 

He said an additional 3,000 megawatts of power would be available by the next one year and the need for quick rental will gradually decrease.

In reply to another question, the Finance Minister said that no one would be loser in the next budget, everyone will win.
