Transport owners have decided to operate their vehicles on the routine routes in the capital on Sunday despite BNP calling a daylong hartal today. “We don’t accept the hartal,” Khandaker Enayet Ullah, secretary general of Bangladesh Transport Owners' Association told media.

“The elections to two city corporations were held on Saturday in a democratic manner. Fearing defeat in the polls, BNP has called the hartal to create anarchy,” said Enayet Ullah. The decision of the association came soon after BNP called the daylong hartal -- from dawn till dusk -- today in Dhaka city, rejecting the results of Dhaka North and South City Corporation elections.

At a press conference in the party’s Nayapaltan central office on Saturday late evening, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced that they will observe the dawn-to-dusk hartal tomorrow. Meanwhile, general people who voted said the BNP called hartal was illogical. “they feared a massive defeat and so they called the hartal.”

Another voter said, “We know that whenever a party loses it calls hartal to win support of the public. However, people who voted surely will reject such unethical programme of hartal.
