Public-private sectors integration a must in creating skilled and efficient managers and workers in line with the demand of modern technology which also requires need base specialization in education, said speakers at a virtual dialogue on Sunday.

The federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) organized the virtual policy dialogue on Skills and Managers aiming to formulate specific recommendations for creating skilled workers and managers for investment, domestic market development, export diversification.

Md. Helal Uddin, Director General (Additional Secretary), Department of Technical Education, NDC joined the dialogue online as the chief guest on the occasion. Speaking as the chief guest, he said that there is a demand of around one million people every year in the manufacturing and service sector. The Department of Technical Education has already taken several initiatives to address the gaps in all sectors, including the training academy.

He said public-private sectors should be integrated in creating skilled workers and managers. If all sectors including FBCCI can be integrated, the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s goal and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur's dream of a ‘Shonar Bangla’ can be fulfilled.

He also mentioned the lack of databases of various institutions, limitations in technical education assessment, lack of master trainers and several other limitations.

He said that all sectors, including the FBCCI, need to work together to bridge the sector-wise gap. This will add value to the country and abroad in all fields and productivity will increase.

FBCCI Md. Jasim Uddin said that due to the efforts of the Prime Minister , there has been a massive digitization in Bangladesh, as a result, new innovative economic activities are being conducted.

“At the same time, structural change in our education system is currently the main challenge to provide the necessary skilled workers. The working manpower of the country must acquire technical skills especially for the fourth industrial revolution”, Jashim said.

He mentioned that it is very important to create skilled managers as well as skilled workers in line with modern technology. For this, need base specialization is required. Special sector training centers can be run on priority basis by joint ventures of government and non-government organizations.

There is no substitute for proper training to make overall economic activity more dynamic. Bringing quality trainers from abroad for specific training if should also be considered.

He said, “The academy has no contact with our business. Public-private partnerships are critical to achieving government goals, including LDC graduation.”

He added that there was a need to provide training for management of information technology dependent industries, trade and office management and to expand it to the marginal level.

Abu Nasser, Director, FBCCI delivered the welcome address while  Mostafa Azad Chowdhury Babu, Senior Vice President addressed as special guest.

FBCCI Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Mahfuzul Haque, directors of FBCCI, presidents of various chamber associations, also joined the event and shared their views.
