Protection of minorities, indigenous people, women voters before and after polls demanded

Various organisations under the banner of Nagorik Somaj (Civil Society) formed a human chain in front of the Jatiya Sangsad building on Monday demanding protection of the people from the minorities and indigenous communities as well as the women voters.

At the function, a keynote speech was presented by ALRD Executive Director Shamsul Huda. Khushi Kabir, Co-ordinator of Nejra Kori, Zakir Hossain, CEO, Nagorik Udyog, prominent economist Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya, Honorary Fellow, CPD, Nirmal Rosario, President, Bangladesh Christian Association, Monindra Kumarnath, Acting President, Bangladesh Hindu, Buddhist, Christian Unity Council, Subrata Chowdhury, Senior Lawyer, Bangladesh Supreme Court, Advocate Saidur Rahman, Chief Executive, Human Rights Cultural Foundation, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Executive Director, TIB, Dipayan Khisa, Human Rights and Indigenous Rights Activist, Professor Robayet Ferdous, University of Dhaka, Kajal Debnath, Former President, Bangladesh Puja Udjavan Parishad, Director of Mass Literacy Campaign Rasheda K Chowdhury, among others, also spoke in the function.

They demanded the government and the Election Commission to ensure maximum security for the people of the minorities and indigenous community people and women before and after the upcoming elections.
