The probe committee on the Major (retd) Sinha M Rashed murder case, constituted by the home ministry, quizzed dismissed Officer in-Charge of Teknaf Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das, former in-charge of Baharchhara police outpost of Teknaf Inspector Liaquat Ali and ASI Nandadulal, the prime accused of the murder case, on Monday.
The interrogation of Pradeep Kumar, SI Liaquat and ASI Nandadulal commenced from 11 am on Monday at Cox’s Bazar District Jail.
Mokammel Hossain, Cox’s Bazar Jail Superintendent, said the committee members led by Mizanur Rahman, additional divisional commissioner of Chattogram, came to the jail gate and started quizzing the accused. The accused were being questioned till 12:30 pm on Monday.
According to the sources, the committee recorded statements of the three police officers separately.
In this regard, a letter was sent to the Cox's Bazar superintendent of police, the superintendent of the district jail and the investigating agency- RAB- earlier.
Major (retd) Sinha was shot dead by police at Shamlapur check post under Baharchhara union on Cox's Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive road on the night of July 31. Earlier, Sinha's sister Sharmin Shahriar filed a murder case against seven policemen, including Teknaf Police Station former OC Pradeep Kumar Das and Inspector Liaquat. RAB is investigating the case as per the court order.
Seven people, including four policemen in the case, are currently in the RAB custody under remand. The probe committee also interrogated them earlier.
A public hearing, organized by the probe committee, was held on Sunday over the killing at Shmlapur Rohingya Camp in-charge office adjacent to Baharchara police check post where Sinha M Rashed was shot dead.
After the public hearing Mizanur Rahman, convener of the investigation committee, said on Sunday that the investigation committee is working hard with the target of submitting the report by Sunday, August 23, the deadline set by the Home Ministry's Public Security Department.
“So far 60 people have testified, according to the guidelines given to the inquiry committee by the government”, he said, adding that the report would be made based on the source of the incident, the cause of the incident, and recommendations to be prepared to prevent such incidents in the future.
The court also granted a seven-day remand each to Pradeep, Liaquat and Nanddulal Rakshita. At the end of the remand of seven people currently in the custody of RAB, these three will be questioned on remand.
On Monday afternoon, RAB Director General Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun visited Shamlapur, the killing site of Sinha M Rashed in Cox's Bazar.
