Prices of veg, essential commodities go up

The price of vegetables and other essential commodities has gone up in the market over the week. 

After oil and onion, the price of local garlic has increased at an unusual rate in the kitchen markets of the capital. Although the supply of soybean oil has increased in the market, it is still being sold at higher prices as before. 

Besides, consumers have to pay extra prices to buy onions and eggs.

The situation has been observed after visiting a good number of kitchen markets in the capital on Friday.

Per kg tomato is being sold at Tk 80 with an increase of Tk 30. Papaya, which was being sold at Tk 30 per kg even a few days ago, is now being sold at Tk 50-60 per kg. 

Per kg carrot is being sold at Tk 100, eggplant at Tk 60-80 per kg, cucumbers at Tk 30 per kg and lady's finger is being sold at Tk 50-60.

Pointed gourd is being sold at Tk 50-60 per kg, yardlong bean at Tk 50-60 per kg, tomato at Tk 40-50, pumpkin at Tk 40, radish at Tk 30-40 and snake gourd at Tk 50 and bitter gourd is being sold at Tk 80 in these markets.  A large size cauliflower and cabbage is being sold at Tk 50-60 per piece, and gourd at Tk 50.   New and old potatoes are being sold at Tk 20 per kg in markets. Green chillies are being sold at Tk 100-120 per kg.  Green bananas are being sold at Tk 40 per hali (four pieces) and lemon is being sold at Tk 40 per hali.

Traders are selling local garlic at Tk 90-100 per kg, which was being sold at Tk 40-50 a day ago.

Per kg local onion is being sold at Tk 40-45 per kg and lentil at Tk 130 per kg.

A dozen of red eggs are being sold at Tk 115, duck eggs at Tk 160-165, local chicken eggs at Tk 190 and a dozen of Sonali chicken eggs are being sold at Tk 180.

Dried chilies are being sold at Tk 150 to Tk 250 per kg, ginger at Tk 60-80 and turmeric at Tk 160 to Tk 220 per kg.

Per liter soybean oil is being sold at Tk 220-250 at retail level. Sugar is being sold at Tk 80 per kg. Besides, packet sugar (1 kg) is being sold at Tk 85 per kg. 

The prices of meat have increased over the week.

Beef is being sold at Tk 650-700 per kg and mutton is being sold at Tk 900-1000 per kg in the markets. 

Broiler chicken is being sold at Tk 170-175 per kg and layer chicken at Tk 280 per kg. Pakistani cock or sonali chicken is being sold at Tk 300-310 per kg.
