Brinjal, other veg prices still high

The prices of vegetables and other essential commodities have gone up in the market during the week in Ramadan.

Along with eggplants, beans and cucumber, prices of other vegetables have also remained high over the week. 

The situation has been observed after visiting a good number of kitchen markets in the capital on Friday.

Despite adequate supply in the market, the price of eggplant has gone up during the month of Ramadan. Per kg eggplant is being sold at Tk 80-100 which was being sold at Tk 40-60 per kg before Ramadan.

Per kg bean is being sold at Tk 100-120 and cucumber at Tk 80 per kg.

Pointed gourd is being sold at Tk 50-60 per kg, yardlong bean at Tk 60-70 per kg and sajna stalks are being sold at Tk 140-150 per kg in different kitchen markets.

Per kg lady's finger is being sold at Tk 50-60, per kg tomato at Tk 40-50, carrot at Tk 40, pumpkin at Tk 40, radish at Tk 30-40 and snake gourd at Tk 50 and bitter gourd is being sold at Tk 80 in these markets.

A large size cauliflower and cabbage is being sold at Tk 50-60 per piece, and gourd at Tk 50.  

New and old potatoes are being sold at Tk 15-20 per kg in markets while green chillies are being sold at Tk100-120 per kg. 

Green bananas are being sold at Tk 40 per hali (four pieces), per kg papaya at Tk 50-55 and four pieces lemon is being sold at Tk 40.

Onion prices have come down a little in the markets over the past week. Per kg local onion is being sold at Tk 30-35 and Indian onion is being sold at Tk40-50 per kg. 

Per kg lentil is being sold at Tk 120 per kg with an increase of Tk 5. 

A dozen of red eggs are being sold at Tk 105-110, duck eggs at Tk 160-165, local chicken eggs at Tk 210 and Sonali chicken eggs are being sold at Tk 180.

Dried chilies are being sold at Tk 150 to Tk 250 per kg, garlic at Tk 100-110, ginger at Tk 60-80 and turmeric at Tk 160 to Tk 220 per kg.

Per liter edible oil is being sold at Tk 175.Sugar is being sold at Tk 80 per kg. Besides, packet of sugar is being sold at Tk 85 per kg. 

Beef is being sold at Tk 650-700 per kg and mutton is being sold at Tk 900-1000 per kg in the markets. 

Broiler chicken is being sold at Tk 175-180 per kg and layer chicken at Tk 265 per kg. Pakistani cock or sonali chicken is being sold at Tk 300-310 per kg.
