Price fall in large caps drives stocks down

Stocks today witnessed downward trend due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities.

 DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by

65.86 points or 0.94 per cent to settle at 6,930.07. Two other indices also closed lower. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, lost 24.97 points to finish at 2,655.99 and the DSE Shariah Index fell 12.61 points to close at 1,464.97.

The daily trade turnover on the DSE also plunged to Taka 11,113.57 million which was Taka 15,062.39 million at the previous session of the week.

Losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 373 issues traded, 273 closed lower, 68 higher and 32 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

 Beximco dominated the turnover chart followed by BRAC Bank, Orion Pharma, IFIC and GENEXIL.

SKICL was the day's best performer, posting a gain of 10 per cent while Premier Cement was the worst loser, losing 9.95 per cent.

  The Chittagong Stock Exchange also ended lower with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)-slumping 203.91 points to close at 20,293.33 while the Selective Categories Index - CSCX shedding 122.89 points to close at 12,195.09.

Of the issues traded, 198 declined, 53 advanced and 20 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 84.53 million shares and mutual fund units with turnover value of more than Taka 31.56 crore.
