Although Primary Education Completion (PEC) examinations were not held last year due to the closure of educational institutions, the government is taking preparation to hold this year’s PEC examination.

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossain made this statement while responding to a question at a briefing, organized on the occasion of International Literacy Day at the Secretariat on Monday.

When asked if this year’s PEC examinations are to be held following the government's decision of fifth graders to go to school every day along with SSC and HSC candidates, he confirmed saying, “Definitely!”

“If the situation is favourable, the final examination of class V will be held at the end of November or early December,” he added.

When asked, whether the exam will be held according to the whole syllabus or short syllabus, the State Minister said, “It will be held following the customized (short) syllabus we have published.”

"We will conduct the test in six subjects, if we can analyse the situation. We have recovery plans as well. We’ll open the schools first, let's see!”

Responding to another question from reporters, Md Zakir Hossain said the schools will also conduct annual examinations. The worksheet will continue even if there are physical class ongoing.

When asked if the schools are ready to open, he told reporters “All the preparations have been made.”

Earlier on September 5, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni announced the decision of reopening educational institutions, from primary to higher secondary levels, on September 12.
