Political instigation is playing the major rule behind the current unrest at different university campuses in the country including Jahangirnagar University (JU).

Mainly, BNP and Jammat backed political student wings ‘Chatra Dal and Shibir’ are trying to create unrest in different university campuses on futile issues.

Besides, different student wings of left leaning party including Chhatra Union, Chhatra Front, Chhatra Federation are also trying to destabilize the peaceful environment of education in campuses.

Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel on Saturday said that there was political instigation behind the agitation demanding the resignation of Vive Chancellor of JU

He said strict measures will be taken against those who are doing such inferior activities to disrupt education.

He said this while addressing a press conference at the International Mother Language Institute auditorium in the capital.

The deputy minister said, “The Prime Minister has said that legal action will be taken against those who destroy the education environment of the universities and give false allegation. Now our technology is far ahead. We can find out from whom, from where and from which vested political parties they get money and try to create unrest in the campus. But many times, thinking about national welfare, students and teachers have been exempted from punishment. In has been said in section 211 of the Penal Code that if anyone make false allegation, the penalty should be awarded.”

The Deputy Minister said, “After we sought information from the complainants, why did they take four days to bring the complaint from Jahangirnagar University, which is an hour’s distance? The delay naturally seems that it is a conspiracy. If there is a complaint, it will be investigated if submitted. Both sides need to be heard for justice. But, why they are arranging concerts, breaking the locks in the midnight. Despite closing the university, why and in what purpose they are staying in the campus? I want to know.”

He said that before submitting the complaint for investigation, I will also put it to the investigation that where the concert money came from.

He further said that the goal of ensuring transparency is not implemented through the resignation of the Vice Chancellor.

Many are fueling the movement from far, he said, adding that some political parties, who have not been able to gain confidence among the people, have chosen universities in the field.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday warned of punitive actions against instigating students to create unrest in public universities reminding all concerned that these institutions of higher studies are run with public money.

“Leading students to a wrong path through provocation and sweet words is unacceptable . . . nobody can allow this,” she said while inaugurating the Bangladesh Jatiya Sramik League’s (BJSL) 13th national council at Suhrawardy Udyan here this afternoon.

In an apparent reference to the current unrest in Jahangirnagar University and other public universities, the prime minister said if the situation continued the government might stop funding these institutions which would require agitators or their instigators to bear their study expenses.

Sheikh Hasina asked those who were waging the movements at the universities for various demands to think that what they would do.
