Police HQ issues guidelines for Durga Puja celebration

The Police Headquarters (PHQ) of Bangladesh on Monday urged all concerned to remain alert so that no vested groups could harm religious harmony by spreading misleading information and rumours ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja.

The PHQ also requested all to inform immediately police if such a situation arises.

The notice was issued days before the largest religious festival of the Hindu community.

The other guidelines for observing Durga Puja includes setting up CCTV cameras at all puja mandaps, refraining from entering mandaps carrying bags, ensuring adequate lights at mandaps and places of idol immersion, deploying volunteers at mandaps at night, refraining from exploding firecrackers, and avoiding use of loudspeakers during the prayer times of Muslims.

Leaders of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad said that  they want to celebrate the upcoming Durga Puja without worry and security concerns.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun instructed the police officials to remain alert so that no one could spread rumours targeting the upcoming Durga Puja.

Besides, he also ordered intensified police patrol across the country on the eve of puja.

Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Habibur Rahman inspected the security measures of all puja mandaps in the city.

Durga Puja  began  through Mahalaya on Saturday and the main festival will begin on October 20 and end on October 24 with Bijoya Dashami and Bisarjon.
