PM to brief media on China visit Monday

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hold a press conference on Monday to brief media about the outcomes of her five-day official visit to China.

The press conference will be held at PM's official residence Ganobhaban at 4pm, Prime Minister's office sources said.

During her visit, Sheikh Hasina attended the annual meeting of World Economic Forum (WEF) in Dalianon on July 2.

She talked with Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang and meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijingon July 4 and 5 respectively.

China’s ruling party Communist Party of China (CPC) on Friday assured Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to pursue Myanmar to resolve the Rohingya crisis, a day after Chinese premier Li Keqiang pledged to extend Beijing’s support for repatriating the forcibly displaced Myanmar people. “We’ll contact with the Myanmar political leaders including Aung San Suu Kyi to solve the Rohingya problem amicably,” CPC Minister for International Affairs Song Tao told the Bangladesh premier, reports BSS.

During meeting with PM Sheikh Hasina at Diaoyuati State Guest House in Beijing, Song Tao said the CPC would pursue Myanmar leaders to take back the first batch of Rohingyas in soonest possible time to mark the launching of the repatriation process.

The CPC assurance came a day after Li Keqiang acknowledged the issue to be a major crisis saying “there is no doubt that it’s a big problem for Bangladesh” which should be resolved fast.

During her visit, Bangladesh and China signed nine agreements, including two loans, for further strengthening cooperation on power, water resources, culture and tourism sectors.

Sheikh Hasina went to China on July 1.
