Plenty of jobs in new year

About one lakh vacancies in government and private sectors will be filled in the new year.

This will create a plenty of job opportunities for the job-seekers who could not avail themselves of the recruitment exams as those were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Almost all the recruitment examinations including this year’s (41st) Bangladesh Civil Crevice (BCS), different examinations of Bankers Selection Committee (BSC), and other private job examinationshad been postponed due to the pandemic.

Now, these recruitment examinations of different sectors have started and new recruitment notifications have been published which are raising hope for the job seekers.

Moreover, the government has granted age exemption to the candidates in the case of recruitment ads or notification which could not be published due to corona. According to the government notification, those who reached the age of 30 on March 25, can also apply for recruitment.

Besides, the recruitment test in government banks has also started. 

Member Secretary of BSC Arif Hossain Khan told Bangladesh Post, “Some recruitment tests have started in compliance with the hygiene rules. Besides, MCQ and written examination for 1,511 vacant posts of Officer (Cash) of five government banks will be held soon.”

He also said, “We have recently finished the viva exam for 889 posts (officer) of two banks, which were stuck due to covid-19. We have also conducted MCQ and written examinations for 663 posts (officer cash) of Janata Bank.”

“A schedule will be published again for the recruitment of candidates for some 771 posts of ‘Senior Officer’ in seven government banks and financial institutions,” he added.

Besides, the schedule for the recruitment examinationsof combined officer (general) of more than 2,200 posts, Assistant Director of Bangladesh Bank (188 posts), senior officer of seven banks will like to be published by March.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BSC) has already published the circular for the recruitment of 42nd and 43rd BCS.  

PSC Chairman Mohammed Sohrab Hossain recently said, “We could not conduct the preliminary examination of 41st batch of BCS which was supposed to be held in April. If the university authorities conduct admission test, PSC will also conduct 41st BCS exams as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, PSC concluded the viva examination for the appointment of assistant teachers in government secondary schools even amid corona pandemic.

In addition, Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) published a notification to recruit 32,777 assistant teachers at government primary schools. This examination is likely to beheld in 2021.

On the other hand, the private organisations almost stopped hiring candidate due to covid-19. Now, they have also started publishing new recruitment advertisement. 

FahimMashroor, chief executive officer (CEO) of Bdjobs, one of the largest job seeking sites of Bangladesh, said, “Job advertisements were reduced by 80 percent in April to June this year, compared to previous year. Now, the situation has started changing. Till December 15, about 3,000 new job advertisements have been published in Bdjobs.”

Earlier, several examinations of the PSC were postponed due to pandemic. Although the preliminary examination of the 41st BCS examination was supposed to be held in April but it did not take place. The results of the 40th BCS written test were also postponed due to Corona. Bangladesh Bank examination was not held. The recruitment examinations of directorate of food for 1,100 posts could not be held.

Meanwhile, about 20 lakh people enter the job market every year. There are no official statistics on how many of them are employed. The situation has worsened due to the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus.

According to International Labour Organisation (ILO), about 25 percent of young people in Bangladesh are unemployed. The unemployment rate has doubled due to Covid-19.
