The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 15 projects worth Tk 18,010.12 crore, including a pilot project of ‘Amar Gram, Amar Shohor’.
The approval came from the Ecnec meeting chaired by its chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the NEC conference room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan said that a total of 15 projects were approved with an estimated cost of Tk 18,010 crore. Out of the total cost, Tk 12,192 crore will be spent from government funds, Tk 5,233.43 crore from foreign loan assistance and Tk 584.62 crore from implementing agencies.
Planning Minister MA Mannan said, “Through the project, flat facilities for housing, union revenue collection system, cultural centre, water and sanitation and sustainable energy system will be developed in villages as well as in cities. Initially, Tk 800 crore will be spent to implement the pilot project in 15 unions. It will be spread across the country in stages. Through the project, initially 616 units or 68 four-storey residential buildings will be constructed in three villages.”
The Planning Minister said that the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) and the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) will jointly implement the project by June 2026.
The project aims to extend modern civic facilities to some 15 villages while all the villages of the country would be gradually brought under the modern civic facilities.
The major project operations include upazila, union and rural roads development, construction of growth centers, rural market development and agri products collection centers, ensuring water supply, sanitation and integrated waste management plant, construction of upazila multipurpose sports and cultural centers, development of schools playing grounds, development of rural accommodation, excavation of canals and ponds, erection of street lamps, supplying of Bondhu Chula and Biogas plants, social afforestation and village branding.
The approved projects in Ecnec are – Barapukuria, Bogra-Kaliakoir 400 KV line project, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Film City Project, Sylhet Medical University Establishment Project, Dry season river flow assurance, waterway development and flood management projects to restore the flow of Jhenai, Ghaghat, Banshi and Nagda rivers, Ulipur-Chilmari Link Road Construction Project, Design and Construction Quality Improvement Project for Resilience of Private Buildings.
Besides, integrated and Sustainable Municipal Water Supply and Sanitation Project in Chittagong Hill Tracts, Record Building Construction Project for Bangladesh Supreme Court, Barisal, Bhola, Jhalkathi and Pirojpur District Irrigation Development Project, Padma river water supply and irrigation expansion project in Barendra area by double lifting method, Establishment and Development Scheme of Tissue Culture Laboratory cum Horticulture Centre, Urir Char-Noakhali Cross Dam Project have been approved during the meeting.
The Ecnec also approved the permanent rehabilitation slope conservation project of damaged dam of Polder No-72 in Chittagong district, Project for construction of new food warehouses and ancillary facilities at various strategic locations in the country and Amar Gram, Amar Shohor village development pilot project.
