Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday said the people have turned away from those who want to create anarchy and paralyse the country by promoting terrorism and militancy.

"The country's people want to see an illuminated Bangladesh. They do not want to go back to darkness," he told journalists after inaugurating a barrack and a conference at Chatkhil Police Station in Noakhali.

Speaking about the next parliament elections, the home minister said, "Who joins or does not join the polls is not the main issue. The elections will be held in the country as per the constitution."

In an oblique reference to BNP, Kamal said, "We think the people are not with them. No matter how much audacity they show, they could do nothing as the people are not with them. Because, the strength of the people is the real power."

As per the constitution, he said, the Election Commission (EC) will declare the election schedule and all law enforcement agencies will go under the control of the EC.

"Free and fair elections are being held by the Election Commission under this administration. We think this Election Commission will give another fair election," the home minister added.

HM Ibrahim, MP, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Chattogram Range of Police Noor E Alam Mina and Noakhali Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Shahidul Islam were present on the occasion, among others.
